It took Michelangelo more than two years to finish the statue of David. It is a masterpiece, but how did he know when he was done? A little chipping here and chiseling there and one day he looked at it and said, “Voila,” or perhaps “Ecco”?
For most of us in a growth mindset, we wlll never become David because our stories of success, failure, and lessons learned continue to chisel away at us and turn us into the person we are becoming. We never “get there” — or become the person we're supposed to be — because there is no proverbial “there” to reach.
Whenever we achieve some moment of clarity or realization or feeling of awareness or fulfillment, we want to go further and that means leaving “there” behind and going to the next place. It’s human nature. Those of us in a growth mindset are always on the journey. The little things that happen throughout the journey tell us our boundaries, our comfort levels, our limits, and it’s up for us to surrender ourselves and break through them. When we allow ourselves to be chiseled, then we experience growth.
That’s the subject of Chiseled, my latest dream realized! I’ve launched this new podcast to discuss themes from the book Better Than You Think and other lessons of personal growth. I invite guests to share their stories about the way they got to where they are at this moment and how where they are affects the person they are becoming.
I am surrendering to the whole idea of doing this podcast and I'm going to let God take it where it's supposed to go. I encourage you to listen to Chiseled, which is streaming all over, including on these channels:
