When we're not transparent to ourselves or others we're basically living a lie. We're trying to fool others into thinking we're someone or something that we're really not. Being transparent allows others to see your humanness.
I journal for an audience of one - myself - but it is my legacy. Have you considered what you look like to yourself or to others? Below is a video about transparency from Better Than You Think. Watch it and follow along with the proposed exercise from the book.
Take 20 minutes to write down a poem about yourself. Call it "I Am." The purpose of the poem is to learn a lesson in being honest with yourself about who you are.
When you're done writing your "I Am" poem, read it out loud. You'll find that when you write down your honest thoughts and true feelings — even if only for yourself, an audience of one — the words tend to flow from the heart. But remember to reflect on these words afterward, in a quiet place. Let them guide you in your decision-making or provide insight about how you might wish to handle a situation that you're in.
